A Magic Steeped in Poison wraps the reader in a tea filled sensory dream, just like my trip to Jioufen Teahouse in Taiwan, the town said to be the inspiration of Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away.
Chances for Serendipity is an absolute hidden gem. It is the right level of cheesy, it has the right pacing, it has cute themes (tennis and baking!), and it has heart-warming character growth. I found myself smiling at certain points and feeling grief at certain points, all while maintaining an easy-to-read tone the entire time. Exactly what I’m looking for in any contemporary romance!
Mango, Mambo, and Murder is the perfect read if you are looking for something light and breezy. There is clear skill in crafting a story that takes on so many moods all at once and Raquel V. Reyes manages to skillfully and artfully balance them all perfectly. You will be stressed, hungry, and eager all at once!
The Keeper of the Night is the exact book I desperately needed as a teen to help me realize that I was not alone. I am not joking when I tell you that this is the most validating book that I have ever read. I am so happy that it exists and I wish everyone would read it. It is phenomenal.
The Chosen and the Beautiful is an incredible reimagining and reexamining of The Great Gatsby. It’s done so well and so full of thought and care. Nghi Vo knows and loves the story so much but has created a brand new way for us all to look at it. Absolutely stunning.
XOXO is a love story not only between Jenny and Jaewoo but Jenny and Korea. I was giddy reading this book and I couldn’t put it down one second. The heartwarming friend groups, the sweet romance, and finding a home away from home is the perfect recipe for an incredible comfort read.
