Six Crimson Cranes is another delight from Elizabeth Lim. Her writing is so beautiful that she makes you feel like you’re inside a fairytale. They are easy to read and fast paced, told like a folktale would be. Her stories are a delight to read and this is no exception, Six Crimson Cranes is lovely.
The Ones We’re Meant to Find was a book that is going to stick with me for quite a long time. The twists and turns were executed so well, and the prose was absolutely stunning. The way the prose and the story flowed like water, made me feel like I was lost at sea — or rather, lost in the book.
The Forest of Stolen Girls is deeply atmospheric and pulls you in right from the beginning. I loved the way that I truly felt a part of the town. However my favorite part of this book was the relationships between Hwani and her family. Each relationship is different, and it was beautiful.
A Pho Love Story is absolutely stunning. Every moment of reading about Vietnamese food or reading a Vietnamese word was dear to my heart. This book will make you hungry, it will give you butterflies, and it will make your heart ache. It was truly incredible.
You’ve Reached Sam is an incredible book about teens dealing with grief and loss. The writing matches the story perfectly, and navigates the digital theme incredibly. The characters are diverse and rich, and the friendships are beautiful.
Dread Nation was an incredibly compelling read with young characters but definitely appeals to a much wider audience. Justina Ireland delivers a brilliant novel that tackles so many world issues that you will want to truly pay attention. I absolutely cannot wait to read the sequel to see more of this horrifying world.
War Girls is a wonderful work of war time science fiction based in the strong relationship and sweet love of two sisters despite the odds. Tochi Onyebuchi writes a personal, action packed, fast paced story full of rich history and based on the Nigerian Civil War.
