Steamy, heartwarming, sweet, fun, sex-positive, delicious, and witty
Happy Endings was truly a delight. This book was so easy to read and so fun I was in love with it from the start. The writing makes it so easy to breeze through, the characters are hilarious and provide such fun depth, and the sex-positivity was so refreshing to read. I really loved this book, it’s a perfect combination of steamy and sweet!
Trixie is determined to make her sex toy business a success to prove to her parents that she can be successful in a nontraditional career. Andre is struggling to keep his family’s soul food restaurant afloat, and the last person he expects to see in his restaurant is the girl he left behind in New Orleans without a word, Trixie.
I really loved Trixie’s friend group, the Boss Babes. I’m not sure how much I love the name, but I love the friend group. They are a group of women entrepreneurs, and they have weekly meetings to keep each other accountable for their goals and to cheer each other on. I love a good found family, but a business family? of women entrepreneurs? Incredible. Every woman needs a group of friends like this. Especially women entrepreneurs!
My favorite part about this book was the sex-positivity. Trixie finds her purpose in teaching women about their bodies and helping women feel more comfortable about themselves. She doesn’t just sell sex toys, but she teaches classes to post-menopausal women about pleasure after menopause. She hosts pop-ups for her products with so much variety in audiences: bachelorettes, groups of couples, groups of young women, and groups of older women. I love how she makes sex toys empowering and is passionate about making women feel better about themselves. Trixie’s witty and confident banter will get you interested in trying her sex toys for yourself!
Relatedly, I really personally loved reading about a Vietnamese American woman who was so smart, driven, compassionate, and sex-positive. I have never read a (sex-positive) sexy story about a Vietnamese woman and it really touched my heart. It really is so powerful to see people who look like you in empowering positions, even in fiction. I’m so glad that this book exists, and that I was able to read it. It seems a little silly to be so excited about a sexy woman in a book, especially a sexy Asian woman in a book, considering the fetishization of Asian women, but the positivity made such a huge difference. It was more impactful to me than I anticipated!
Happy Endings is a fun, fluffy, and sexy second chance romance. It is the perfect beach read or summer read. It has supportive friends, it is sex-positive and empowering. It was the perfect easy read to breeze through, and I really enjoyed it!
