Our Mission
Here at Bookish Brews you can be sure that all stories will always be stories by diverse voices. Bookish Brews is working to center stories by marginalized creators and celebrate and promote their success. I am especially looking to highlight BIPOC stories but our LGBTQIA+, disabled, neurodivergent friends, or friends who identify with any other marginalized group are 100% welcome and celebrated here.
Our Story
Bookish Brews started as a personal goal to decolonize my own bookshelf, but it very quickly turned into a passion for diverse stories. I firmly believe there is so much to be learned from stories from people with different backgrounds and I want to share my journey with you. We are truly changing the world. I would love nothing more but for you to come on this journey with me and help me celebrate incredible stories so we can continue shaping our own culture.
About the Reader
Hi, I’m Amanda! My journey into literature has given me the space and the peace to begin tackling the big personal question of identity. Hearing stories by people with even marginally similar stories, backgrounds, and identities as mine has given me the strength to fight to embrace and question my own identity. If Bookish Brews can help do the same for even just one person, then it is a worthy endeavor.
As a mixed Asian American reader, I’m always inclined to hear stories by Asian voices. It’s something that I never had access to as a kid and so I can’t seem to get enough of feeling represented. More specifically, I’m always looking for Southeast Asian representation in books. I also identify as mixed-race or biracial, so multiracial representation will always catch my eye. That being said, multiracial representation is how I am most worried about being misrepresented in books, so please be mindful.
I credit a lot of my mental work surrounding literature to my dear friend Kat. She’s always there when I want to postulate about literature and is always ready to play through thought experiments about fiction with me. So much so that they have their own contributor page here. Come see her recommendations!
