20 Questions Book Tag

Hello, my lovely friends! I hope you’re all doing wonderful today. πŸ™‚ I’m going to do something a little bit different today, completely just for fun. I realized that none of my followers really know me at all. πŸ˜… So when Etta at Chonky Books Review tagged me in this 20 book questions tag, I thought it was a good opportunity to share a little bit about myself! Well, about how I enjoy books at least. Which is probably more appropriate anyway. So without further ado, please enjoy some book Q&A with me!

1. How many books are too many books in a series?

Of course this always is going to vary depending on the series. But generally, my ideal length of a series is about 3 books. Although I’m really in love with duologies, but that doesn’t mean that more than two qualifies as “too many!” Although I’ve read a handful of series that seem to go downhill at book 4 and beyond. All good things must come to an end, right?

2. How do you feel about cliff-hangers?

Okay, I love cliff hangers, if the next book is already available for me. But I’m one of those people that if I wait too long for the next installment, I will just forget about the series. I know, I know, you completionists out there are probably thinking I am horrible. But think about how new and shiny and pretty your TBR is!! It’s so easy to forget series you started forever ago!! Even if there is a cliff hanger!! And when there is a cliff hanger in a book that I can’t immediately read the sequel, I get pretty annoyed. πŸ˜…

3. Hardback or Paperback?

Nothing beats the beauty and durability of a hardback, but I honestly really dislike actually reading them. If I could look at a hardback all day, I would. They just get too heavy! At the same time… If I’m reading a paperback, I always need to be incredibly careful, because I want it to always look absolutely perfect. What a dilemma!

4. Favourite book?

I think my favorite book changes all the time. If it isn’t super fresh in my mind, I’ll find a new favorite. As of right now, I can definitely say that my favorite book is Folklorn by Angela Mi Young Hur. She… really nailed it. That book really spoke to me on such a personal level. I definitely cried too many times. It can be really hard to find books you see yourself in. Thank you again, Angela Hur. πŸ™πŸ»

5. Least favourite book?

All books that I dislike, I intentionally try to forget! I’ll say that a recent book that I really hated was The Au Pairs. Oh man… I totally hate read that with Sarah. (does anyone else hate read books?) We were hoping for a trashy read written by a marginalized author, and we … got it. But unfortunately it didn’t age well. There were much less marginalized authors writing for a change back then. Even more gross, that was totally the standard for books back then. GROSS. Though it really reminded us how far we have come. πŸ’ͺ🏻

6. Love triangles, yes or no?

Y E S. I love love triangles. Well, when they are done well. I love that lame drama. Give me your best love triangle recommendations!

7. The most recent book you just couldn’t finish?

My most recent DNF was Master of Poisons. It’s a shame, though. The writing was really pretty and I think I just wasn’t in the mood for it at the time. It definitely just wasn’t the right time for me to pick that one up.

My most recent DNF that was definitely worth of a DNF was A Song Below Water. Which is really sad because it has a really cool premise and the cover was lovely. I just… hated it. Oh well.

8. A book you’re currently reading?

I’m shockingly only reading one book right now!!! Which is honestly insane for me, if I do say so myself. (It’s because I finished one this morning, but I digress) I’m only reading Dread Nation, and it’s GREAT. Stay tuned for my review of it. Justina Ireland is…. so cool!

I’m also reading Inferior right now! Gotta keep up on my non-fic as well. 😎

9. Last book you recommended to someone?

No Gods, No Monsters. Aaaaah, what a great book. I’m still thinking about it. Check out my review for it! Definitely one I’m going to be recommending for a while.

11. Newest book you’ve read?

I feel like this question gets confusing when you’re addicted to reading advanced readers copies… But the book that I’ve read that comes out the latest is No Gods, No Monsters, which comes out on September 7, 2021 and everyone should preorder it now!

12. Favourite author?

My author crush is 100% RF Kuang. The Poppy War was the first book that I read that has an all Asian cast. And if you don’t know what it means to someone to see a full cast that looks like them for the very first time, let me just tell you: it means everything.

13. Buying books or borrowing books?

I love borrowing books. I really really value libraries and I want to give them all the support I possibly can. I’m always at the library or on Libby/Overdrive. Even more personal, I love borrowing books from friends. The energy is different on a book that has been read and loved multiple times.

14. A book you dislike that everyone else seems to love?

This one is easy: The Cruel Prince. Or the whole Folk of Air series. Sorry everyone, it’s not that good. I enjoyed the first book enough, until I realized how rabid the fandom is. Now I … get annoyed. SORRY. My contrarian side is really rearing it’s annoyed head on this one. Everyone compares it to A Court of Thorns and Roses and it couldn’t be more different. Sorry. It’s not horrible it’s just incredibly overrated, which annoys me. (don’t hate me)

15. Bookmarks or dog-ears?

Bookmarks ALWAYS. I actually love getting bookmarks as a gift (hint hint to my traveling friends (as if anyone is traveling right now 😭))! Anyway, don’t ruin your books everyone. Dog eared pages are sad. Why would you fold the page when you can use any kind of paper as a book mark?!

16. A book you can always reread?

I have to admit, I really don’t reread very much at all. Again, my TBR is so enticing! A childhood favorite though would have to be His Dark Materials. I have read through that series 3 times, so I would say that’s probably top of the list. Though if I read it for the first time now, it probably wouldn’t be so high on the list. Years ago I would have said Harry Potter, but we all know how JK Rowling is. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

17. Can you read while listening to music?

NO. I guess if it has no words I can, but I’m a weirdo and I love the silence. Or the hushed sound of the world. It’s just so refreshing. So I don’t prefer to at all.

18. One POV or multiple POVs?

Honestly I have no opinion on this one. As long as it works with the book, it’s fine by me. Most books I read have multiple POV, though. Which is fun because you get to know the characters better. But a single POV can really help you see the mistakes and misunderstandings of the main character. So this one truly depends!

19. Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?

If a book is novella in length, I’ll usually try to knock it out in one sitting! I love binge reading books. But because I like variety, I usually read a few books at a time, so it forcefully spreads out books over a few days. πŸ™‚

20. Who do you tag?

Well this was fun! So I’m going to tag all of my upcoming buddy reading friends! Look out for all of our buddy reads coming soon. πŸ™‚ Hope to see your posts next: Sarah (of course) at Girl on Books, Melissa at Bantering Books, and Ashmita at The Fictional Journal!

Of course those of you who I have nominated don’t need to do this! I just thought it was fun, and Etta at Chonky Book Review is so nice! So I thought I’d join the fun! Thanks everyone who stuck through until the end! I appreciate you. Glad you all get to know me a little bit better now. πŸ™‚

How is your weekend going? What are you reading this weekend? Did any of my answers surprise you? Let me know!
